What is Google Drive?

Google Drive transcription lets you paste a public Drive file link for audio or video you are allowed to process. InstantTranscriber fetches the media, extracts speech, and creates a searchable transcript.

Transcription quick facts

  • Common use: Meeting recordings shared from Drive
  • Quality tip: Share the file with anyone who has the link before importing
  • Watch out for: Private Drive files require sharing access or direct upload

How to import this source successfully

Check access first, then keep the source context attached to the transcript job.

  1. Open the Drive file's Share dialog and allow anyone with the link to view the file.
  2. Test the file link in a private browser window; it should open without a Google sign-in.
  3. Paste the single-file link into Paste a link in your InstantTranscriber dashboard.
  4. Start from this guide's CTA so the dashboard opens in URL-import mode with Google Drive as the source.
  5. Review speaker names and timestamps, then export TXT, DOCX, PDF, SRT, or VTT.

Other supported link sources

Import a public file or track link directly when the source allows access.

Best use cases

  • Meeting recordings shared from Drive
  • Class recordings and interviews saved in Drive
  • Video files collected from clients or collaborators

Common pitfalls

  • Private Drive files require sharing access or direct upload
  • Drive folders are not file links
  • Very large files still follow your plan size and duration limits

Tips for higher accuracy

  • Share the file with anyone who has the link before importing
  • Paste the file page link, not a folder link
  • Enable speaker labels for meetings, interviews, and panels

Troubleshooting Google Drive imports

The fastest fixes for access, link, and audio-quality problems.

The Drive link asks for a sign-in

Change General access to Anyone with the link, or download the permitted file and upload it directly instead.

The link opens a folder

Open the audio or video itself and copy that file's sharing link. Folder links cannot identify one media file to transcribe.

Drive says the file is still processing

Wait until Google Drive can preview or download the media, then retry the same public file link.
